South
Ayrshire Primary Schools Athletics Relays
The South Ayrshire Primary Schools Athletics
Relays competition organised jointly between Ayr
Seaforth Athletics Club and South Ayrshire Sports
Council was held last Thursday (10th May) . This
year was the best attended to date with 28 teams
from 20 schools across the district participating
- almost 150 children. With weather holding mainly
dry but breezy a noisy and enthusiastic crowd
of pupils, family and friends provided a great
atmosphere on the day.
Competition was fierce with so many teams competing
and as usual to make it fairer, the schools were
split into two groups, greater and less than a
role of 200 pupils.
Excellent performances were seen in both groups.
The small schools had winners from five different
schools in the six races; Cairn, Muirhead, Dundonald
(two), Monkton and Sacred Heart .
Alloway dominated some of the larger schools races
where they won two, were second in two and third
in one but with 18 teams competing just getting
through the heats into a final was a creditable
achievement! Heathfield, Doonfoot (2 wins) and
Grammar shared the honours in the other four races.

SOUTH AYRSHIRE PRIMARY SCHOOLS
ATHLETIC RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005
27th April 2005
The South Ayrshire PS relay championships were
held last Wednesday on a glorious sunny afternoon
at the Dam park stadium in Ayr. Once again a fine
turnout was exhibited and the results reflected
the talents of all the schools participating.
Seven different schools won 1st prizes and all
the schools had teams in at least one of the top
three race positions.
In the larger schools 4 x 100m contest P6 honours
were taken by Heathfield and Grammar whilst the
P7 board was swept by Wellington, winning both
Boys and Girls events. The longer 3 x 600m relays
for P7 only, saw wins by Doonfoot (Boys) and Wellington
(Girls).
From the smaller roll schools (less than 200 pupils)
Dalmilling and Crosshill won the P6 Boys and Girls
races respectively and P7 winners were Crosshill
for the Boys and Sacred Heart for the Girls. In
the stamina sapping 3 x 600m races once again
Crosshill and Sacred Heart prevailed.
Overall this year’s competition was the
best supported on record and the sponsors, Ayr
Seaforth Athletic Club and South Ayrshire Sports
Council wish to thanks all Officials and Teachers
/ Parents who gave up time to make it a resounding
success.
