2016 South Ayrshire Primary Schools Relay Championships

The 2016 Primary Schools Relay Championships took place at Dam Park, Ayr on Wednesday 11th May, in glorious sunshine, coordinated by the Sports Development Team. Primary 6 & 7 pupils from 24 local schools across South Ayrshire took part in this annual event and were rewarded by a host of medals and trophies provided by South Ayrshire Sports Council and presented by Chairman Chris Carlyle.

This year the large schools category (role of more than 200 pupils) was very tightly contested with the Best Overall Performing School decided on the last race of the day - this was Heathfield Primary with 2 wins and a 3rd placing. Five different schools won each of the six separate races and honours were spread across twelve individual schools.

In the small schools category, it was more of a two horse race, with Holmston and Symington sharing victories in five of the six finals, with Dundonald winning the sixth race. Best Overall Performing School was Holmston with two wins and three second places. Symington had three wins and one third place, narrowly losing out to Holmston. Six of the ten participating schools won a top three placing.

A fantastic day; helped by the weather and abundance of enthusiasm from the pupils; was had by all on this its 20th anniversary.
